The Perkins Local School District Board of Education on Wednesday hired long-time teacher and intervention specialist Erick Weisenberger as Briar’s new assistant principal beginning next school year.

Mr. Weisenberger was recommended to the Board by Superintendent Todd Boggs, who hosted two rounds of interviews “with great candidates” over the last several weeks. Mr. Weisenberger emerged as a leading candidate because of his experience, skills as an educator, and ability to work with students and colleagues.

Mr. Weisenberger “will support and work well with Briar Principal Jeff Thom,” Mr. Boggs told the Board. “He interacts well with people and maintains high expectations … My recommendation (of Mr. Weisenberger) is the right recommendation for kids.”

Mr. Weisenberger has 22 years experience working with children with behavioral handicaps, learning disabilities, developmental handicaps, gifted, and general education needs. He has been an intervention specialist at Briar Middle School since 2005.

He graduated with a bachelors degree in education from Ashland University in 1999, and with a masters of education from Bowling Green State University in 2009.

After the Board members approved a two-year contract as an Assistant Principal, Mr. Weisenberger thanked the members. “I am so honored,” Mr. Weisenberger said. “I’m honored to work with a great staff.”

Mr. Weisenberger will take the position now held by Scott Matheny, who will leave the district at the end of the school year.
