7th and 8th Graders Earn Power Of The Pen Honors

Best of Round and Individual Award Photo (l-r) Annaliese Rogers, Eve Hartley, Addyson SmithBriar Middle School 7th and 8th graders flashed their writing skills in the annual Power of the Pen district tournament held virtually on Saturday, February 6, from Tiffin.

Briar 7th grader Addyson Smith placed 7th and 8th grader Eve Hartley placed 8th.

Eve Hartley also won a Best of Round award for her overall response to a prompt for her story “Changing Course.” 7th grader Annaliese Rogers also won Best of Round for her story “Nervous Beauty.”

The stories of Annaliese and Eve could be published in the 2021 Power of the Pen Book of Winners.

The 7th grade team also placed third in the overall team awards. The team members are: Brianne Bucher, Lilly Ryerson, Vidhi Patel, Annaliese Rogers, Addyson Smith, Madisyn Smith, and Ella West.

The following students scored in the top 50 percent of all writers and now qualify to write at the regional competition on March 20: Brianne Bucher, Annaliese Rogers, Addyson Smith, Ella West, Chloe Carr, Keira Geiger, Eve Hartley, and Delilah Wilken.

The Briar students were among 66 7th-grade writers and 75 8th-grade writers from 17 schools across the district who competed.

Briar teacher Mary Darr is the advisor for the Power of the Pen competition.
