Posted on 03/30/2020

UPDATE: During his daily press briefing, Gov. Mike DeWine today announced that he would extend his order of school closings through Friday, May 1.

The governor said he will re-evaluate the order “closer to that date.” He told Ohioans that schools will continue e-learning and distance learning at least until then.

“School is continuing,” Gov. DeWine said during this press conference. “But it’s clear we’re not going to be back in the classroom before May 1.”

Meantime, Perkins Local School administrators are expecting to discuss the order extension and how it will impact our schools. Please stay tuned for more details.

Perkins Local Schools will close for three weeks, beginning on Monday, March 16, in accordance with an order from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine. The closure comes as the state of Ohio hopes to reduce the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Classes at Perkins Schools will be in session on Friday, March 13. The school district’s staff and faculty will report to their school buildings on Monday for a staff day.

Beginning Tuesday, March 17, faculty and staff will not report to the schools, but instead work remote as much as possible to meet the educational needs of students.

Superintendent Todd Boggs has called a meeting with his administrative staff, including building principals, to discuss plans for ensuring that academic engagement between teachers and students will continue while the schools are closed.

All athletic activities, including practices, are canceled while the schools are closed.

Right now, there are many issues regarding staff and expectations for students while the schools are closed. Please stay tuned for further guidance and information from your Perkins Schools.
