During the Perkins Local School Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, Athletic Director Ted Sturzinger, who just finished his first season as AD, shared the successes of the PHS student-athletes. And, despite a pandemic that has threatened sports across Ohio, the Pirates performed extremely well across all sports.

“Thanks to all of our coaches, players, and families for their understanding and flexibility during fall season,” Mr. Sturzinger said. “I appreciate the effort from everyone for the success of our fall season.”

At the top of the list, the PHS Volleyball team was a mere three games away from a state championship as District Champions and finished its season as Regional runner-up. The team also won the SBC Lake Division Championship. Kelley Baker, Elizabeth Ziegler and Mollie McVeigh were named All-District; Cameron Kaufman was named third Team All-District and Emma Manley given Honorable Mention All-District; senior Mollie McVeigh was named League Player of the Year, District Player of the Year, and Third Team All-Ohio; and junior Elizabeth Ziegler received Honorable Mention All-Ohio.

The Football squad sported three All-SBC players, including senior Sam Siegel, who garnered recognition as SBC Second Team honors on both offense and defense. (And, yes, that’s the same Sam Siegel, a two-sport fall athlete, mentioned above as the SBC Player of the Year in golf.) Kaiden Weyer was named All-SBC Second Team Defense, and Chris Campbell, Cortez Johnson-North, Daniel Zirkle, Kaden Gentry received Honorable Mention.

And, the PHS Cross-Country teams also did well.
