A Nurse In Each School

Perkins To Have A Nurse In Each Building For 2020-2021 School Year
Posted on 08/27/2020
Nurse Amy Koch will staff the clinic at Meadowlawn Intermediate School. When Perkins Local School District students return to school buildings next week, they will notice many changes due to the pandemic. Among those changes will be a full-time nurse in each of the district’s four buildings.

Superintendent Todd Boggs is expected to recommend that the Perkins Board of Education hire Amy Koch to staff the Meadowlawn Intermediate School clinic every school day at its next regular meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Mrs. Koch previously was an emergency room nurse at Bellevue Hospital. Many students, parents, and teachers will likely remember Mrs. Koch, who has served as a substitute nurse during the past three school years. Her four children also graduated from Perkins High School.

Mrs. Koch will join the staff headed by Nurse Lisa Miller at Perkins High School, and Nurse Heather Zess at Briar Middle School, and Nurse Melissa Koch (no relation to Amy Koch) at Furry Elementary.

To help ensure the health and wellness of students, teachers, and staff, as well as their families, the nurses are asking parents and guardians to prepare their students for school each day.

That starts at home each morning, when parents assess their children’s health by taking their temperature and monitoring them for any symptoms of COVID – cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, body aches, headache, loss of smell or taste, nausea, and diarrhea. If students have symptoms, they should stay home school.

Students – as well as faculty and staff – are required to wear proper masks, including while riding a bus, walking in hallways, and in classrooms. They also are required to wear their masks properly, covering their noses, mouths, and chins.

If students have symptoms while at school, teachers will refer them to the nursing staff. A student with symptoms will be sent to the school’s clinic and sent home.
