Band Director Parker Announces Departure; District Acquires Land

Justin Parker

After three years as Perkins band director, Justin Parker will leave the district after the 2018-2019 school year. On Wednesday, the Perkins Board of Education accepted his resignation.

Mr. Parker has decided to leave the district for family reasons. Mr. Parker currently conducts the 7th and 8th grade bands at Briar Middle School, as well as the Perkins High School Band.

The Perkins Local School is currently seeking a replacement to fill the position next school year.

In other action, the Perkins Board of Education also approved the purchase of a 1.15-acre parcel adjacent to the high school parking lot for $35,000.

The property, which is along Campbell Street just south of the Perkins High School building, is vacant and used for agriculture. Board President Dr. Brad Mitchel said he expects that relationship to continue.

The Board approved the purchase, 5-0.

Perkins Superintendent Todd Boggs explained that the district has no current plans for the property. The land went on the market and the district saw an opportunity to acquire it.
